Most Anticipated Book to Screen Adaptations

While I will always prefer books over films, sometimes (a.k.a. more often that I would like to admit) I just want to Hulu and Chill.

And because it’s always better to read the book first, I decided to compile a list of most anticipated book to screen adaptations of 2020 and 2021.

Last Letter From Your Lover

In 1960, Jennifer wakes up in hospital after a car accident. She can’t remember anything – her husband, her friends, who she used to be. And then, when she returns home, she uncovers a hidden letter, and begins to remember the lover she was willing to risk everything for.

I have yet to read this book, but I know I will love this movie because: (1) I love Jojo Moyes, (2) Shailene Woodley plays to role of Jennifer, (3) the plot is exceptionally intriguing, and (4) it was shot in Britain.

Though the official release date has not been announced yet, they finished filming in December of 2019, and it is therefore safe to assume that it will be released this year or next year at the latest.

Nine Perfect Strangers

Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.

Since Big Little Lies was such a success, it was only a matter of time before someone picked up another one of Moriarty’s books. Nine Perfect Strangers will come to Hulu in 2021 starring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy!

Though I haven’t read the book yet, you might remember that I announced Summer of Liane Moriarty last week!

Daisy Jones & The Six

Daisy Jones and The Six Book to screen

The making of that legend is chronicled in this riveting and unforgettable novel, written as an oral history of one of the biggest bands of the seventies. Taylor Jenkins Reid is a talented writer who takes her work to a new level with Daisy Jones & The Six, brilliantly capturing a place and time in an utterly distinctive voice.

Daisy Jones & The Six was picked up by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Amazon Studios back in July, 2018. Though official release date has not been announced yet, according to IMDb, this TV show ended is in pre-production, and I’m sure it won’t be long before it hits our screens!

Death on the Nile

Agatha Christie Death on the Nile Book to screen

The tranquility of a luxury cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish, and beautiful. A girl who had everything . . . until she lost her life.

If you’re a fan of Agatha Christie, chances are you have probably already read this, but if you haven’t … do it as soon as possible. The film will star Kenneth Branagh (Harry Potter, Much to do About Nothing, Othello, Hamlet, Murder on the Orient Express), and it is expected to hit the theatres on October 9, 2020.

QOTD: Have you read any of these? Will you watch the movies? Are there any book to screen adaptations I should know about?
